Uncomfortable Truths in Homeopathy: Adulterations in Our Materia Medica
Don't rely on speculation, rely on verified knowledge. Roland Methner, the leading mind behind the Materia Medica Pura Project (MMPP), explains in this interview how he is revolutionizing homeopathy through radical source criticism. Learn how the creation of clinically verified monographs significantly improves the accuracy of remedy selection. Roland shows how to identify „fake symptoms“ and why returning to Hahnemann's pure doctrine is the key to healing the most severe chronic cases. An inspiring conversation about the connection between a spirit of inquiry, scientific rigor, and profound healing experience.
Tip: Dive into the soul of the means and understand the healing impulse.

  1. Hello Roland Methner, I would gladly like to know: What then came out as a testing symptom in a („today's“) MMPP drug trial with regard to sugar and the sense of justice? (to complete the great presentation).
Thank you for the specific, critical, and awareness-raising information on the reliability of means (MM) – manufacturing – repertories – AI!
    Kind regards, Jutta

    1. Hello Jutta, there are currently no new drug provings for Causticum, but based on all available material (all provings, all cases and experiences available to me) I can say: Sweets = there can be a craving OR aversion. Injustice = it CAN be an indication for Causticum, but it does NOT NECESSARILY have to be present to successfully prescribe Causticum.
      Best wishes, Roland

  2. I would like to know what symptoms Causticum from DHU has, since it is not described as an ammonium compound, but I was prescribed it for facial paralysis. I can't say if it worked, because I also received acupuncture, and the real healing only began after a sweat lodge. Nevertheless, I feel that the descriptions by Vithoulkas and also by Jürgen Becker with the C4 trituration (which Causticum did he then prepare?) resonate a lot with me. If anyone can tell me something about this, I would be very happy.

Thank you very much Tatjana Heß

    1. ...if one prescribes Causticum DHU, one would probably need to know the year the preparation is from. Currently, it is (see my inquiry to DHU) likely a potassium compound – according to HAB – and therefore not the correct Causticum according to Hahnemann. Thus, especially if it is ineffective, I recommend trying the Causticum from Remedia („Hahnemann Original“) or Brahmsapotheke.
      Since I don't use C4 balms, I can't say anything about it.
      Best regards, Roland

  3. Dear Roland,

This truly is Sisyphean work, reflecting a love for homeopathy.
It reminds me of our time together at the Clemens von Bönninghausen Academy.

    Best regards
    Claudia

    1. ..yes, a lot of work – but it's worth it: you learn a lot yourself AND it benefits the hom. community.
And because it is precisely and in writing documented with sources, it even helps future generations 🙂
      Best wishes, Roland

  4. That was an exciting and somewhat entertaining interview. At the same time, it was disillusioning – at least for me, someone with only homeopathic basic knowledge and no concrete homeopathic healing experiences. It would have been interesting to learn the most important substantiated results from this great Materia Medica project on Causticum. Although that is probably difficult, since the available findings were not obtained with the Causticum originally prepared by Hahnemann.
My question regarding this would be: What is the certainty of an experienced therapist that they can achieve healing with homeopathic remedies at all, given these uncertainties, which likely also affect other remedies? Because this certainty must exist if people are undertaking this enormous, meticulous effort of the Materia Medica project.
Definitely a very interesting endeavor. Thank you very much for the insights.

    1. Dear Margarita, presenting the essentials of Causticum (preferably with a few cases to illustrate) would have taken about a day, so it would have been too much for a 1-hour interview. But at least I included the summary of Thuja as bonus material.
You have a certain positive expectation when prescribing a remedy if you have taken a detailed case history (at least 2 hours), followed by a thorough case analysis and repertorization, and possibly reread the few 2-4 potential remedies in the Materia Medica. You only have certainty when the patient has given you feedback on the effects days/weeks later.
So no quick, rushed action, but – if you've learned it well – a very satisfying profession 🙂
      Best regards, Roland

      1. Thank you very much, dear Roland, for this answer to my inadequately posed question.

  5. Thank you very much for the great work and review of the Materia Medica with your project. I will also inform my homeopath about it. I also have Causticum Hahnemanni C12 from DHU. Unfortunately, many other reliable manufacturers are no longer around. DHU has also unfortunately undergone a change. But thank you for the tip about Remedia – Brahmsapotheke. Now no one knows what effect this potassium compound has. I should perhaps inquire with DHU. A verification would be important, especially at this time; all homeopaths should have an interest in it. It is about establishing reliability and trust in homeopathy.

    1. Dear Claudia,
DHU will not be able to tell you anything about the effect of their preparation; we will have to compare it with Hom. in the coming years.
An examination, for example with DHU-Causticum, is not that important from my perspective at the moment because we have a lot of material on how historical Causticum has worked (AMP AND cases), and we have at least two manufacturers selling this original Causticum. Possibly there are even more, namely Fincke potencies from Remedia and Dunham C200 – both are historical potencies from the Caust.-manufacturing of Fincke (1821-1906) or Dunham (1828-1877) at that time, which still work today and can be bought from Remedia today.
      Warm regards, Roland

  6. Well, there are other remedies for excessive sympathy... Ign, Phos, Nat,... AI is totally stupid, sorry. Please discuss it with her and presto, the opposite comes out.
For me, the main thing is „when he saw the boy climbing.“ It means concern for those in need of protection, along with burning corrosive substances, as in quicklime.

  7. This misinformation is getting on my nerves too. There are *many* cases about this. And some book authors must have plagiarized.
You should also stay away from people who practically release new books weekly. That's why I don't believe many things and look for other ways. However, these thousands of different remedies are often a farce because many small remedies often show the same symptoms that are contained in the major remedies (i.e., the first, well-tested remedies). Now you can give many small remedies or one „big“ one. One would have to do some sorting.

  8. Thank you very much for this wonderful work. My experience as a homeopath is that only by reading and personally working through many materia medicae does the full picture of the remedies emerge. Then it also becomes clear who has understood the remedy deeply or only applied it superficially.
A very independent MM is Bismuth by Karl-Josef Müller. Here, special symptoms can always be found that are confirmed in treatments. Do you have the book in your project?
I found in Leeser that he defined Causticum as an ammonium compound, as did Mezger – who, however, refers to Leeser.
I had the same experience with ChatGPT. I gave it cases I had solved – without naming the remedy – and it solved none. I then discussed it with it. You can see the result on my page: https://stapper.com/ki-und-homoeopathie-chatgpt/

    1. Dear Thomas, for our work, it is essential to use reliable sources, not fantasies. We need this in the future; the internet is full of nonsense and „fabricated things“ (which Hahnemann expressly warns against).
Unfortunately – and this is an unpleasant topic – there are also famous homeopaths who simply make up cases, manipulate/embellish them, or „interpret“ them to such an extent that little remains of the original case. K.J. Josef Müller is one of them, which is why he is on our red list (= he is usually not used). I'm sorry to have to say it, but not using background information (from reliable witnesses!) harms homeopathy more than occasionally taking a stand (I'm only answering you because you asked). It also makes me sad that we have „fakers“ among us, but homeopaths are just normal people, with potential weaknesses.
      Best regards, Roland

    2. I find the dialogue with ChatGPT very interesting – also in terms of the capabilities of AI in general, not just regarding homeopathy. I wouldn't have expected this „self-reflection“ of the AI, which was triggered by your questions.

  9. Thank you, Mr. Methner, for emphasizing the quality of our remedies; it is a very important aspect. As an animal homeopath, I only let pet owners order from Remedia, Brahms, Gudjons, or Dr. Grimm's pharmacies. DHU is okay up to C or D 30; I've already had problems with the effectiveness of higher potencies. Causticum has symptoms in the repertory that are incorrect, which I've seen in animals that responded very well to Causticum; it's good to get confirmation.
But concerning AI...if homeopathy also becomes dependent on this technology, then homeopathy will not survive. Being a homeopath does not mean pulling a remedy out of a hat as quickly as possible, but rather making an effort to find the right remedy. It is better to have fewer patients per day than to do one's work with AI.
This AI story is a disaster and humanity is blindly running into a cruel trap.

  10. Thank you for the introduction.
And the enormous effort that went into the work.

  11. Hello Mr. Mettner,

Thank you very much for this very enlightening interview. I am delighted by your dedication. A true blessing, as it transforms the vague into clarity more and more.
If it's indicated that new drug studies should be done, I'm happy to participate. I've already had the opportunity to test many agents (also for MMPP) together with Nate.

    Warm greetings from Potsdam,
    Alexander Heinrich
